THE CHANNEL+ GUIDES
IPTV keeps buffering? Make one useful comparison at a time
Your programme starts, then pauses again — even though a speed test looks fast. Before changing five settings, make one comparison you can actually learn from. Keep the programme and device the same, change one thing, and write down what happens. The aim is a useful next step, not a guess dressed up as a diagnosis.

A fast number does not explain a paused programme
A speed test and a television programme are different observations. A good result on your phone does not show what happened in the TV app when the picture stopped. Keep that result if you have it, but note which device ran the test, where it was and when.
This guide is for a programme that plays, then repeatedly pauses or shows a loading symbol. If the app instead asks for activation, or no channel starts at all, begin with our general IPTV troubleshooting guide in Guides & advice. Those symptoms need different first checks.
Think of this as keeping a short before-and-after note. You are not expected to identify a faulty server or become your household’s network engineer. One clear comparison is enough to make the next conversation more useful.

Choose what will stay the same
Pick one affected channel or on-demand programme. Write down its name and the quality label shown in the app, if there is one. Use the same TV or streaming device and the same app for both parts of the comparison.
Watch for a period that normally includes the problem and note how long you watched. If the pauses usually arrive after several minutes, a few seconds of smooth playback is not a useful comparison. There is no compulsory test duration: stop if you have enough information or would rather ask for help.
Keep other viewing on that access stopped during both checks. CHANNEL+ individual access permits one active screen at a time. If a second screen starts halfway through, note that and repeat with one active screen; otherwise you have changed more than one condition.

Try one connection change, if your setup allows it
For Google TV on slow Wi-Fi, Google suggests bringing the router closer or using a cable between the router and TV. Choose one option you can carry out safely. Do not move the router and change app settings at the same time.
If your viewing device has a suitable Ethernet socket and you already have a suitable cable, follow its manufacturer’s instructions to connect it to the router. Ethernet simply means a wired network connection. Confirm the device is using that connection, then return to the same programme and quality label. Other devices need their own instructions; do not force a cable into an unfamiliar socket.
No suitable connection or cable? Skip this check. You do not need to buy equipment to finish your note. If moving the router is practical, that can be your single comparison instead. Leave other settings alone.
Observe for a similar length of time and record the result. With live television you cannot replay exactly the same conditions, so this is a useful clue rather than a controlled laboratory test.

Decide what the result actually changes
- Playback improves: keep the working arrangement if it suits you. Repeat the comparison during another affected viewing period before calling it a lasting fix. Improvement points towards something worth investigating about that connection; it does not prove the precise cause.
- Nothing changes: record that the same programme still pauses after this one change. Avoid stacking several more changes on top. Your provider can use this result to decide what to check next.
- The problem does not appear during either check: record that too, with the time and how long you watched. You have not reproduced the problem yet; that is different from confirming a repair.
If you later compare a different channel, app or device, make it a separate note. Do not compare a film on one device with a live match on another and describe the difference as proof that one connection is better.

Keep a note you can actually use
Copy this template into a note on your phone. It is a blank record for your own observations, not a test we have carried out.
Send it privately to your existing provider, with the exact error message if one appeared. Keep passwords and access links out of screenshots. For CHANNEL+, the UK offer page asks for the channel, device and time when a stream slows down; these details give our team a clear starting point. You can ask for help before completing these comparisons.

Use the evidence before spending more
Your next step may simply be keeping a connection that worked, repeating an inconclusive check or sending the note to support. A pause alone is not a reason to buy another subscription, replace the TV or pay for a new network service.
Already subscribed? Start with the provider you have. CHANNEL+ customers can use Contact us on this site. If you are separately considering a CHANNEL+ subscription, the plans below let you discuss your device and setup with the team. That is a purchase conversation, not a promise that switching will cure an unexplained pause.
